A subtle brisk of the wind, the air gushing up to you with a swirl of the sand; Jaisalmer – Sonar Kella brightens up a rather gloomy day with its beauty and appearance. Tall pillars, walls mixed with shades of white and brown, the camels hopping over the sand dunes manages to set up an aesthetic view and charm up the rather inquisitive mind. A double storied restaurant, the upper section acts up as a private dining area, to be also used up for banquets and special arrangements.

The food here is a mix of contemporary with a hint of the traditional; munch on the classic North Indian, Mughlai and Awadhi cuisine or have a fine dining experience with the Italian and Continental delicacies. The buffet gives a bang of the buck, an array of mouthwatering dishes all lined up to satiate your appetite. An area dominated by the office-goer’s, pair up your food with a drink over two on a fine afternoon or just after your working hours. A perfect place to dine, wine and go merry, Jaisalmer – Sonar Kella is more than what meets your eyes.+

We started off with Murgh Lasooni Kebab, Chicken Multani Kebab and Basket Chilli Chicken for starters. Murgh Lasooni Kebab came with a subtle hint of garlic and a good amount of cheese, the meat tender and soft. Chicken Multani Kebab, perhaps originating from Multan, a city in Pakistan – Punjab. This Kebab brimmed with a strong aroma of ginger and garlic mellowed down with curd and subtle hint of spices. A work on the Indo-Chinese quintessential, the Chilli Chicken came with a fresh hint of basil placed over a fried basket.

For mains, we paired an aromatic Awadhi Pulao with Chicken Rara Punjabi. A rare confluence of the Mughal heritage with the Awadhi culture, the Awadhi Pulao reminded of the streetside Hazratganj Pulao. A bit different from the traditional Awadhi Pulao, this was a rather rustic version, more like the Tawa Pulao you see on the streetside. Chicken Rara Punjabi was a sheer explosion in the mouth; robust spices with a lovely blend of Chicken and flavourful Chicken Keema.

The highlight of the day was however the Wine marinated Prawns and Crab in Barbeque Sauce. Gently fried with butter and tossed lightly in wine, the prawns came with a side of accompanying grilled vegetables. The crab, large and gigantic in size, tasted heavenly with the sweetish barbeque sauce. The grilled vegetables made both the dishes a complete meal, and something worth coming to this restaurant for every single time.
