Call it Cosmo or Cosmopolitan, sweet with a touch of lime, a strong flavour of the cranberry juice, almost overshadowing the presence of alcohol, yet tasting addictively delicious. A popular cocktail made of vodka, cranberry juice, triple sec and freshly squeezed lime juice remains popular and a easy-to-go drink for a casual sip or two. Said to have been created in lieu of Kamikaze, a classic Martini cocktail, Cosmopolitan used a sweeter Cranberry juice instead of the traditional lime juice, the colour thus appealing to be more visually pleasing. While Cheryl Cook is credited with the invention of this drink in the 1980’s, another theory acclaims Toby Cecchini who added a dash of lime juice to the drink created by Cheryl Cook.

Talk about theatrical overtures, and we have Neal Murray in 1975 who added a dash of cranberry juice to the Kamikaze cocktail while working in a steakhouse. The phrase of ‘How Cosmopolitan’ was uttered by the first person who tasted the modified drink and hence the name. Legend or not, the drink carries a certain charm, an aura, an appeal which remains particularly spectacular and characterizes the uniqueness of Cosmopolitan drink. Chapter 2 presents a quick video of this drink available only for Rs. 99, an offer hard to miss.
